Welcome to the University of Patras Medical Genetics Network (MGN)

Objective

In the post-genomic era, medical science and practice requires the integration of expertise and technologies from a variety of other disciplines, including molecular biology, genetics and genomics, biochemistry, physics, informatics, applied mathematics and engineering, to attain its goals for early and accurate diagnosis and prognosis, understanding disease pathophysiology and development of effective therapeutics.

In the Medical School and other Departments of the University of Patras, there exist many research groups characterized by excellence in different aspects of biomedical research, with distinguished international visibility and considerable national and international collaborations.

The major objective of this University of Patras research network (MGN) is to provide the medical molecular genetics framework for the interaction between these research groups with complementary expertise, towards:

  • the development of fruitful collaborations and advanced applications, and
  • the enhancement of relevant services and educational activities at the University of Patras.

MGN comprises the research groups of 32 faculty members from the University of Patras Medical School, Department of Computer Engineering and Informatics, Department of Pharmacy, Department of Chemistry and Department of Biology and of 1 affiliated research faculty member from FORTH/ICE-HT.
